Snacks: Fried Cheese Sticks

As a standard Filipino favorite, cheese sticks are great tasting and cheap to make. All you need to make it are the following:

20 pieces of lumpia wrapper
1 bar of cheese, sliced thinly
1 ½ cup of frying oil

First, slice the cheese bar into thin, long strips. After which put one to two strips into a lumpia wrapper and wrap accordingly. Make as many as you like and then heat oil for one to two minutes. Once hot enough, put in as many cheese sticks that will fit in the pan and fry until both sides are light brown. Let it cool a bit and serve.

Light, No-Fuss Meal: Lasagna

Although rice is a staple to every Filipino meal, cooking it along with a viand can take work. If you want to save time, cook a pasta meal that will replace your family’s usual rice dish. Here’s a simple version of lasagna that everyone in your household will love.

Boiled lasagna sheets
½ kilo of ground beef
1 pouch of spaghetti sauce (or you can also make your own)
2 cups grated cheese
½ cup parmesan cheese
2 tablespoons of oil

Before starting preparation, preheat your oven to 180 degrees Celcius. Heat oil and then cook the ground beef until light brown. Add spaghetti sauce and let simmer for a few minutes. Once done, put a lasagna sheet on a deep dish and layer your beef sauce as well as a bit of grated cheese and parmesan. Repeat as needed or until the deep dish is filled. Bake for 20 minutes, let cool and serve.


Dessert: Nutella Mug Cake

Nutella has taken the world by storm and Philippines is no exception. To incorporate Nutella into your dessert, follow the recipe below:

4 tbsp. self-rising flour
3 tbsp. Nutella
2 tbsp. Milk

In a mug, combine all three ingredients together and mix well. Put in the microwave for one or one and a half minute in high setting. Serve once done.
